Is the vaccine safe?

Immunization has been proven to be safe and effective at preventing sickness, hospitalisation, and death from COVID-19. Millions of Canadians (and hundreds of millions of people around the world) have already received a vaccine and the vaccines have been shown to be safe.

The vaccine cannot alter your DNA.

If you have a history of severe allergic reactions to vaccines, check with your healthcare provider before getting vaccinated.

The viral vector vaccines have been linked to an extremely rare (~ 1 in 100,000) blood clot complication in a small percentage of people. This complication has included instances of blood clots in the brain (cerebral sinus venous thrombosis). Similarly, the mRNA vaccines have been linked with a very small (~ 1 in 50,000) of myocarditis – although this tends to be transient, and people recover fully.
