Are there side effects?

Some reaction to the vaccine is to be expected, and side effects are a sign of the immune system working in response. But most reactions are mild and can be managed at home. For example, it is common to have a sore arm, and many people will have mild headache, body pain, or will feel tired for a day or two. Immediately after receiving the vaccine, you will be monitored for any potential allergic reaction after vaccination, typically for 15 to 30 minutes.

Side effects from vaccines generally occur within 6 weeks of vaccination. Based on data from the hundreds of millions of people that have received mRNA vaccines, there are no signs of dangerous events caused by the mRNA vaccines.

Things to remember:

  • 8 in 10 people complain of a sore arm, but only 1 in 100 call that soreness severe.
  • 5 in 10 people complain of feeling tired and having a headache, but only 1 in 10 need Advil or Tylenol.
  • The vaccine cannot give you COVID-19 or any other infection.
